“Nice Label”

No. 001.501 of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, a magnum, has a most appealing label a piece of artwork as I call it.

The waiter who served it, in 1986 brought it carefully to the table…

…opened the bottle without breaking the cork…

…skillfully decanted the wine…

…and poured everybody within a party of eight wine conoisiers a little sip…

The reaction ranged from spitting it back into the glass, over “Hm! Worse than what I thought!” to a not so ladylike remark from a laughing woman…

“It would probably be superb as a douche!”

The wine was flat, empty, dead. 1950, the author’s birth year, was not a famous year for this particular wine, however 1949 was. Storage and handling over the years might also have had something to do with the poor quality of the expensive Bordeaux. I still think it’s a NICE LABEL!
