GETTING EVEN
One of my regular customers is my dentist. He comes back for the exceptional good food, I know it is not the service. I always treat him with respect. I make sure to bring him a magazine to read whenever I keep him waiting. We talk about the weather, local gossip and news and often he tells me to order whatever I think he should eat this time. He has a hearty appetite and blames it on our chef.
I made it my routine to watch him start eating, then check the rest of my station where I pour water, wine or coffee, whatever is needed. I usually return to my dentist’s table, here I wait until his mouth is full. Knowing that he is now unable to talk, I step closer and ask, “How is everything?” I try to keep a perfectly straight face when I add, “Just raise your hand if you need anything!”
